At Dünya Doktorları, empowerment is a fundamental concept. Whether it involves individuals, communities, or the organizations we work with, empowerment addresses both an ethical issue (aligned with our values, principles, and history) and a pragmatic concern for effectiveness.
BEING In Control of One’s Own LIfe
At Dünya Doktorları, empowerment refers to both a process and a goal through which individuals and groups develop their capacity to act and transform their environment and living conditions.
This process is based on:
- The participation of individuals and communities in actions that concern them,
- The identification and questioning of power and domination dynamics to strengthen individuals’ autonomy in their social and health-related decisions and pathways.
Fostering empowerment requires a shared set of values and approaches, both in individual professional practices and at the organizational level.
Dünya Doktorları implements and integrates this empowerment approach transversally across all its struggles and projects, thereby enhancing the quality of its interventions.
