Dünya Doktorları Derneği (DDD) is a humanitarian, impartial and independent non-governmental organisation based in Turkey, facilitating access to health care to populations affected by armed conflicts, internal violence, natural disasters, disease, famine, poverty or exclusion. It seeks to stimulate and enlist voluntary commitment from medical and health care providers, and those with expertise in other fields.

DDD in Turkey, in collaboration with different partners, is running projects aiming at facilitating access and orienting beneficiaries to primary and secondary level of health care services, providing Mental Health & Psychosocial Support and Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation services to the refugees and migrants in Turkey.

  1. Mission

Since the beginning of the Syrian and Iraqi crises, a massive influx of external population movements have taken place through the Turkish border into inside Turkey. Over 3 million refugees, migrants & asylum seekers are currently hosted in Turkey which led to an increasing demand for health services and put a serious burden on the system. A need arose for permanent health facilities to provide services; and hence improve access to the services to a large number of refugees and migrants.

In this context, Dünya Doktorları Derneği’s intervention aims at assisting the local public health system in providing and improving access to health and health related services to vulnerable populations among refugees and migrants in Turkey, specifically in Hatay, Izmir and Istanbul provinces.

In Afrin, DDD is preparing an intervention to assist population in need by providing health services.

  1. Responsibilities
    • Health Awareness, Outreach and Local Partnership Development and Support
  • Develop the health awareness of individuals, groups and organizations and empower them to make healthy choices;
  • Perform outreach in collaboration with the medical team and the social worker team for highly vulnerable population if needed;
  • Develop and support local partnerships to broaden the local response to health inequalities;
  • Provide specialist advice and resources to other agencies, such as schools and local communities.

Identifying Training Needs

  • Identify training needs arising from strategic and local agendas for people such as health professionals and volunteers.

Reporting and Coordinating

  • Ensure that work is underpinned by sound, up-to-date knowledge of health promotion theory and make sure that projects are based on evidence of effectiveness;
  • Lobby for increased recognition of preventative and promotional measures that can take place at a population level and which have a positive impact on the health of a community;
  • Write and produce leaflets, posters, videos and brochures to aid health promotion in different environments;
  • Coordinate with other stakeholders working on the same area;
  • Report daily activity through established tool;
  • Propose initiative to improve awareness and behavior change methods;
  • Conduct a quick health screening (questionnaire based) to orient the patient to suitable medical service;
  • Provide a mission report and/or handover document at the end of contract.

  • Any other relevant duties requested by the direct referent/technical referent.


NB: considering the purpose and values of the organisation, DDD requests to its employee complete flexibility in term of duties and commitment, as their job description can be adjusted throughout the year according to needs and priorities.


  1. Expected profile


  • Degree in biological, public health or behavioural sciences.


Professional experience

  • 1-2 years’ experience in a post which involves working directly with the public.


Skills and qualities required

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to network effectively so that you can talk to a range of people;
  • Decision-making skills for acting on policies and strategies;
  • Leadership skills and the ability to motivate and influence others in their health decisions;
  • An understanding of health issues;
  • Empathy for people facing difficult situations;
  • Initiative and problem-solving ability;
  • Time management skills if you’re working on several projects at once;
  • Creativity and the ability to think strategically to achieve results and targets;
  • Research skills.



  • Fluency in Arabic and English is compulsory;
  • Turkish is an asset.
